CreatingYour Own Affirmations Part 1

Affirmationsare about changing limiting beliefs and allowing more positive energies intoyour life.

Using the affirmations that havebeen crafted by others can be very beneficial to allowing this, but sometimescreating your own affirmations that are closer to your own heart can yieldgreater results for you personally. This goes back to choosing youraffirmations wisely.  When creating a new affirmation from yourself, it’simportant to know and understand what you don’t want. It stands to reason thatthe opposite of what you don’t want is what you do want and that iswhat needs to be the focus of the affirmation.

For instance, you no longer want tobe in financial debt. The opposite of not being in financial debt is beingwealthy, therefore the focus of your affirmation needs to be on wealth andbeing wealthy.
It’s important not tofocus on what you don’t want in your affirmations because you will end upgetting more of it any way. What your mind fixates on is what it will draw intoyour life without regard to negation. That means, words like ‘not, don’t, no’have no meaning. This is why it is important to focus on the positive aspectsof what you desire instead of the negative aspects of what you don’t.

After you’ve taken the time to determine what you don’t want tohave in your life and finding its opposite, then you need to move on to thenext step - actually forming it into an affirmation.

Let’s look at the components of aneffective affirmation:

  • The overall tone of the affirmation should be positive.
  • The length of the affirmation should be comfortable for you and it should be easy for you to repeat it and remember it
  • The affirmation itself should stretch your belief system. It shouldn’t be totally unbelievable to you, but it should enough so to cause a little tension, which will cause your mind to expand.

Using the same example from the previous entry, we’vedetermined that we don’t want to be in debt anymore (the opposite of debt iswealthy), how do we turn this into something positive?

Some things to bear in mind islimiting your use of the words ‘not, don’t, can’t, won’t, etc.’ (basicallywords that negate).

So, we could start with somethinglike:  I am wealthy.

So far so good - we’re using presenttense and it doesn’t contain any negation, and depending on how wealthy youfeel, it may be enough to push your belief system. But, you can be extremely wealthyand have expenses to match the wealth you’ve accumulated, so it’s a good ideato think on a deeper level:I am financially independent.

When you are financiallyindependent, it’s saying that you have more than enough money to cover allexpenses.

Pick one aspect of your life, e.g. your health, your competence, yourprosperity or relationships, and think back to when you were a child. Whatmessages about this subject did you hear from adults at that time that arestill playing on your subconscious tape recorder? Messages like: "Mencan't be trusted." "Money doesn't grow on trees." "You'renot smart enough to succeed in business."

WANT TO BE THE HUNDREDTH MONKEY?

 

In his book TheHundredth Monkey, Ken Keyes, Jr. wrote about scientists who hadbeen observing monkeys in the wild for thirty years.  In 1952, on theisland of Koshima, they provided monkeys withsweet potatoes which they had dropped in sand.  The monkeys liked thetaste of the potatoes but found the sand unpleasant.  One day, an eighteenmonth old monkey named Imo washed the potatoes in a nearby stream.  Shetaught the trick to her mother and her playmates, who taught it to theirmothers.  As the story is  told, perhaps 99 monkeys learned to washtheir sweet potato between 1952 and 1958.  One day the 100th monkeylearned to wash the potatoes.  Suddenly, almost every monkey on the islandbegan to wash their potatoes before eating them.  The added energy of this100th monkey had somehow created a behavioral breakthrough. 
But,more amazing, the scientists observed that the act of washing sweet potatoeshad jumped over the sea, because the colonies of monkeys on other islands, asfar as 500 miles away, began washing their sweet potatoes. This phenomena isknown as "critical mass."  When a limited number of people knowsomething in a new way, it remains the conscious property of only thosepeople.  However, there is a point at which if only one more person tunesin to a new awareness, a field of energy is strengthened so that newawareness  is picked up by almost everyone.
                                                   
Iwrote 5 MINUTES FOR WORLD PEACE...Forever: A 90 Day Affirmation Plan in 1991,during the Gulf War.  My intention was to write a 365 page book with dailyreflections on world peace, based on the principles ofaffirmations.   Wanting to get it out right away, Health Communications, Inc. published it as a 90 day plan. 


Thepremise for this book was that if thousands of people read the same page ofthis book each day, the energy from their thoughts would spread out into theworld and we could have world peace.  Since thoughts are energy which wesend out into the universe, we have the power to change what is going on in theworld. 
Thisis certainly not a new thought.  People have believed in the power ofprayers for thousands of years, and prayers are thoughts.
Whilemy book is no longer in print, the concept is as valid as ever.  Thoughtsare energy and are so powerful they can change many of the people aroundus.  Remember, thoughts are energy.  And energy makes thingshappen. 
Spenda few moments being still and let yourself feel how  powerful one word canbe.

Nowimagine thousands of people reading this one word and the lasting effect itwould have on each individual as well as on the people with whom  theycome in contact.
Needlessto say, this is not a very good time in the world. So much is going on ithe world. There are so many natural disasters all over the planet, merciless, tragic fighting going on in the Mid East and other places. We havenot recovered from the tragedy of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and nowour nation is faced with so many natural disasters.  I invite you to joinme and make a difference!

 Let your heart select one of the affirmations.  Write thataffirmation on a few index cards.  Carry one with you at all times. 
You can put another one on your mirror so you will see it and read itto yourself every day. Place one on the visor of your car.   Place itanywhere else that feels right to you.  Quote your affirmation when youend your email.  AND WRITE IT AT LEAST ONE TIME A DAY. I'm not asking thatyou write it 10 times, because I know you have other changes you want to makein your life and if you commit to too much, you might not do anything.  SoI suggest you  write it AT LEAST ONE TIME.  More is better!
 Let's do it.  Tell your family and friends about thisproject.  It will take less than one minute in your day and who knows...wemight see it work in our lifetime!
