About Us

Welcome to Serenity Quest. Our mission is to be of service toward physical, emotional and spiritual growth and healing. Our goal is to:

  • Exalt the Higher Power of our individual understanding.
  • Encourage spiritual maturity. We believe there is one God, and that there are many paths to that God. WE are here to love, honor and support you in what ever path you walk to connect to the God of your understanding. WE believe that we must all follow our unique pattern of unfoldment.
  • Share what we have learned with those who still suffer.
  • Insist on enjoying life.
  • Ultimately become happy, joyous and free children of God.

Serenity Quest is a organization dedicated to the pursuit of physical, emotional and spiritual growth and healing via 12-Step programs, individual therapy, or other self-help methodologies.  We are non-denominational but do believe in a loving God, as we individually understand Him.  Our goal is to know Him and strive to accomplish His will always, with the ultimate purpose of becoming happy, joyous and free children of God.

Connie Amstone

Serenity Quest Incorporated was founded in 1979 by Connie Amstone, whose life was changed miraculously by God’s grace through the programs of NA, PA. OA, Coda, AA and Adult Children of Alcoholics.  The Serenity Quest organization was an all-inclusive group acting as a clearinghouse for a variety of community services such as temporary housing, educational opportunities, workshops, events, counseling and other recovery-based assistance.  Connie created Serenity Quest, a monthly publication distributed worldwide.  Unfortunately, due to financial setbacks, Serenity Quest, both the organization and publication, ceased operation in 1998.

In the spring of 2004, Connie contacted a long-time friend, Anne B., a member of Overeater's Anonymous.  Anne also identifies as a black-belt codependent, shopaholic, and her hobbies include web design and freelance writing when she isn't running amuck with her husband and two adorable little boys.  Connie’s new ambition was to recreate the spirit of Serenity Quest on the World Wide Web.  As "luck" would have it, both ladies shared the same vision and passion, and Connie and Anne quickly became business partners.  With lots of miracles, blessings and unexplained coincidences along the way, www.serenityquest.org is the result of their collaboration.

We are glad you have found us and we hope that you will discover and embrace the serenity that awaits you.  Until then, may God bless you as you trudge with us on the road of happy destiny!

"WELCOME TO OUR WORLD"
We are here because there is no refuge finally from ourselves...
Until we confront ourselves in the eyes and hearts of others we are running...
Until we suffer to share our secrets we will have no safety from them...
Afraid to be known we will know neither ourselves nor any others....
We will be alone. Where else but our common grounds can we find such mirrors?
Here we can appear clearly to ourselves, not as the giants of our dreams nor as the dwarfs of our fears,

but as human beings, with a share in its purpose where we can each take root and grow...
Not alone anymore as in death but alive to ourselves...and to others!
Welcome to our world!

Lu Anne F.

Hello to all. I am Lu Anne from Marceline, Missouri. For those of you who don’t where that is, it was the boyhood home of Walt Disney.

I have lived in small communities most of my life. I tried the big city livin’ & as the saying goes you can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl. I am at home where there is a lot of nature.

Connie & I met each other via the Internet.  She is like no other person I have ever known. During our course of emailing each other she asked if I would like to help her with the Serenity Quest website. Of course, I said “Yes”.

Through our emails, and many  phone calls, getting to know each other better,  there is no doubt in my mind that our paths were destined to cross. Nothing in this world happens by accident. Connie & I are like soul sisters; we have a common bond to help other people as they travel in this journey called life.

Connie, among many other people I have meet during my recovery, has become one of my many angels!

For me this is a new learning experience. I love to have an open mind to learn new & exciting things. By becoming involved with Connie’s site it has renewed my spirit. It has brought an inner peace to me, a peace I have been trying to find for a very long time.

In June 2006, it was determined that I am disabled for many health reasons. I have not worked for about 3 years. While growing up, my grandparents owned a café. So, for me it was nothing to work hard. By my being involved with this website it has given me a purpose in life.

Not only did I learn this lesson in life from my grandparents; I also learned from them to respect other people, if you didn’t see someone with a smile give them one of yours & most importantly when someone is having a rough time in life, take the time to reach out & help.

I love people & when someone asks for help my hand is there to reach out & say I am here for you. This is what I know & have learned over the many years.

Among some of interests in my life is the preservation of wildlife, replanting trees, gardening, planting flowers, watching the humming birds feed at our feeders, free lance photography, along with many other hobbies I have.

This is my third marriage. My husband Vernon is all I dreamt about in a husband. As, I have told him many times he is my knight in shining armor riding white stallion. Or as my husband Vernon puts it, " His stallion was a rusty brown Dodge Truck & his armor is a bit dented & rusted."  We are best friends & share our lives together endeavoring to live in serenity & peace.

A Daily Battle

Therefore, that I might not become too elated, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, an angel of Satan, to beat me, to keep me from being too elated.  Three times I begged the Lord about this, that it might leave me, but he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness."  I will rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me.  Therefore, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and constraints, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

I have been addicted to food since I was nine years old.  Since that time, over thirty years ago now, food has been an overwhelming force in my life, an all-encompassing life-threatening passion, a devastating obsession, an epic fantasy.  I truly believe%
