Dear God,

I am strengthened by every challenge I embrace.

I embrace each opportunity to expand my consciousness.

Yet sometimes I feel like I’d rather run from the challenges.

When I observe this feeling in myself,

I stop and let go.

I remember that this situation is here to bless me.

I am about to uncover a new strength within me

and I listen for Your presence

that guides me through every step,

and I overcome.

Thank you, God.

Hi family!
There are so many things that appeal to different people!
Some feel more comfortable at bigger meetings that are well
established, where they can kind of blend into the woodwork so to
speak, and don't feel pressured to get involved. Others like the feel
of a speaker meeting or a book study, where they can hear other's
experience. Still others like the smaller, intimate feeling of say
(like my homegroup!) a candlelight meeting where they can immediately
be known. Many are drawn to the "popular" meetings, where there is a
lot of socialization outside the meeting. Whatever attracts us to our
homegroups, what makes us comfortable is our choice to accept it
as "ours." Its also a group that you can make every week. For me,
I've always sought out groups that need support, that have at least
one week devoted to step or book study a month, and for a place that
I feel loved and needed. I've had a Friday night homegroup since I
got clean, mainly because Fridays were a big trigger night for me,
even though I used every day—I've thought over the years about
switching, when I moved to a different area or whatever to a
different night of the week, but it seems that Friday meetings still
hold the most attraction to me, though not because of resistance to
temptation. My last homegroup was a Just for Today meditation
meeting, where we would read the meditation, light the candles,
meditate on it for three minutes, have a speaker share on it for
about 10-15 minutes, then open the floor up for discussion. My group
now is also a candlelight meeting, in a couched room—Actually, it
used to be in a room with only couches, but our group's attendance
grew and we were forced to move into one of the classrooms that has a
square of four couches surrounding a large coffee table on one side,
and three tables with chairs on the other side or the room. As it is,
we still have to break into two groups if they bring the bus from the
local detox, but its still a very comfortable meeting.
2. What are things a Homegroup can do to make newer members feel
welcome?
We make a special effort to greet newcomers, to talk to them
individually and try to get to know them. Our format announces that
we are happy to answer any questions newcomers might have. We try to
gear our varied format to accommodate newcomers during our
coffeemaker' s reading choice week, as well as our pitch topic week.
We make sure that we reserve the last ten/fifteen minutes when we're
doing a topic discussion for open discussion on anything they may
want to share, and we go out for chinese each week (I haven't been
able to attend for awhile because I usually pick my daughter up from
work pretty soon after the meeting closes) and invite newcomers
freely, saying if they don't have the money we can cover it, and
split the check accordingly. When a new member joins our group, we
try to give them a position—greeter, chair setup, etc.
3. How can we encourage addicts to express themselves freely and
honestly?
HuH? Why would we want ADDICTS to express themselves freely and
honestly? They're all a bunch of liars aren't they? LOL—God, I hope
you knew that was a joke! We do it in my group by sharing freely and
honestly ourselves, though we do mention in our opening announcements
that though we want them to share about anything that affects their
recovery, we would rather hear about their problem and what we can do
to help instead of war stories. Most of the time this works well, and
we've never had to approach anyone about "inappropriate" sharing.
Mostly its because we're caring and supportive I reckon. Sorry some
of this got so long! Much love, John

The Attitude of Gratitude

What would your day be like if you started and ended it by simply
noticing all that you have in your life? If you count all your
assets, you always show a profit. Gratitude is a natural high.

When you live in tandem with your spirit, appreciating all of
life and what you have, you discover more joy and kindness in the
world. Miracles happen everywhere all the time, but only those
with an "Attitude of Gratitude" seem to notice them. This circle
of peace grows and you return to your natural state of joy, love
and peace, knowing you are whole and complete just as you are.

"Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent
of all the others." ~ Cicero

The following is a list of the top ten reasons to adopt the Law
of Gratitude in your life:

One. Being in Gratitude Only Has Positive Side Effects.

Positive emotions make you feel good and offer a sense of comfort.
When we take a few moments to express our appreciation inwardly
or to another, immediately we begin to feel happier, more relaxed,
more optimistic.

Two. Feelings of Gratitude Provide Short-Cuts to Miracles.

Negative thoughts and feelings create an interruption in the
natural flow of life. When you are feeling positive and grateful
you accelerate what it is that you desire. Consciously
appreciating what you already have is the short-cut to
manifestation and the secret to personal fulfillment.

Three. Thoughts of Gratitude Flood Your Body with
Immune-Boosting Endorphins.

Studies also provide evidence that a positive, appreciative
attitude enhances the body's healing system and general health.
When you hold feelings of thankfulness for at least 15 to 20
seconds, beneficial physiological changes take place in your
body. Levels of the stress hormones cortisol and norepinephrine
decrease, producing a cascade of beneficial metabolic changes.
Coronary arteries relax, thus increasing the blood supply to
your heart. And your breathing becomes deeper, raising the oxygen
level of your tissues.

Four. Feeling Grateful Puts you Back into the `Flow of Life' at
the Speed of Thought.

Thoughts create things. If you are feeling and thinking positive
thoughts, you create positive situations. You draw positive
people to you. Like attracts like.

Five. Gratitude Unlocks the Fullness of Life.

Feelings of gratitude turn what you have into enough, and more.
It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to
clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast or a house into a home.
Gratitude makes sense of your past, brings peace for today, and
creates a vision for tomorrow.

Six. Feelings of Gratitude Give You a `Natural High'.

Grateful people tend to be more optimistic, a characteristic that
researchers say boosts the immune system. Studies indicate that
daily gratitude exercises result in higher reported levels of
alertness, enthusiasm, determination, optimism and energy.
Grateful people experience less depression and stress, are more
likely to help others, exercise regularly and tend to make more
progress toward personal goals. People who feel grateful are also
more likely to feel loved.

Seven. Gratitude Provides an Immediate Sense of Well-Being.

Gratitude, it turns out, can help us better manage stress.
Gratitude research is beginning to suggest that feelings of
thankfulness have tremendous positive value in helping people
cope with daily problems, especially stress.

Eight. Feeling Grateful is the Main Cause of `Sustained Joy'.

Focusing on the gifts one has been given is an antidote to envy,
resentment, regret and other negative states that undermine
long-term happiness. Joy is the simplest form of gratitude.

Nine. The More You Give -- The More You Receive.

You always get more of whatever you appreciate. When you express
love, gratitude and sincere appreciation, you naturally expand.
Consciously appreciating what you already have is the short-cut
to manifestation and the secret to personal fulfillment. The more
you assist others, the more you will assist yourself.

Ten. When You Are Genuinely Thankful Anger and Fear Disappear.

One of the incredible truths about gratitude is that it is
impossible to feel both the positive emotion of thankfulness and
a negative emotion such as anger or fear at the same time.

To Practice This Thought:
• Be lavish in your gratefulness.
• Make gratitude a daily ritual.
• Be thankful for whatever
forces you to deal with your own strong emotions.
• Set aside an hour or two to do nothing much except be
grateful.

Focus on what is working in your life and what IS right in the
world. It doesn't matter how small or seemingly insignificant it
may be. Before long you will notice that more things will fall
into place with little or no effort on your part. Gratitude is a
wonderful tool to use to feel good fast.

Forgiveness

Deep waters

Troubled waters

Cleansing waters

Silken peace

Joy of God fills my heart

Roots of rejection tore me apart

Again, I cry out for the pain to cease

A tormented heart I refuse to keep!

Forgiveness struggles to emerge

Cracking the shell

As the pain is purged

Oh, hardened heart,

To God I give

In exchange for His

Sacrifice

That I may live

My heart speaks love.

REFLECTIONS

You know, time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years.
It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate.   And yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went.  I know that I lived them all...

And I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams... But, here it is. The winter of my life and it catches me by surprise...

How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my babies go? And where did my youth go?

I remember well... seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like...

But, here it is...wife retired and she's really getting gray...she moves slower and I see an older woman now. She's in better shape than me... but I see the great change.... Not the one I married who was young and vibrant... but like me, her age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd be.

Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore. It’s mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will...I just fall asleep where I sit!

And so, now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things.

But, at least I know, that though the winter has come, and I'm not sure how long it will last...This I know, that when it's over...its over...Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done, things I should have done. But indeed, there are many things I'm happy to have done Its all in a lifetime. .

So, if you're not in your winter yet...let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly!

Life goes by quickly so, do what you can today, because you can never be sure whether this is your winter or not!

You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life...so, live for good today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember...

"Life is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who came after. Make it a fantastic one."

LIVE IT WELL!!

The Limits of God

You have created all things; you set in place the planets

And call the stars by name.

How can you be confined in a cell?

In a womb, in a child, In a Man?

You are before all things. You are ageless

And eternal.

How can you be limited to birth?

To the need for sleep, to mortal life,

To death?

You spoke and Man became a living being,

Dependent on You for everything.

How can you submit to need?

A helpless baby Crying for others

To provide everything?

And yet, The Son of God

Was born a man to fulfill

The requirements Of the Law

And restore our relationship

With Him As His sons and daughters.

Winter has come early this year.

God is pruning everything that I hold dear,

But next year, next year...

After I've endured the heat,

The fruit He has planned for me is sweet

When I lay it at His feet, at His feet.

PUTTING A QUESTION MARK WHERE GOD PUTS A PERIOD

Sometimes we wonder,    "What did I do to deserve this", or "Why did God have to do this to me". Here's a wonderful explanation:

A daughter is telling her Mother how everything is going wrong...   she's failing algebra, her boyfriend broke up with her and her best friend is moving away. Meanwhile, her Mother is baking a cake and asks her daughter if she would like some dessert. The daughter says, 'Sure think mom. You make the best cake on the planet.'  'Here, Have some cooking oil’ Mom offers. 'Yuck' says the daughter.  How about two raw eggs then?' ‘Mom you’re really getting gross.'    "Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?" "Mom, those are all yucky!"  What's up?'  To which the mother replies:  "Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves.     But when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake!

Sweetheart, God works the same way. Many times we may wonder why a Loving God would let us go through such bad and difficult times. Why is there war and fighting and struggles.  But God knows that when He puts these things all in this order, they always work for good!  WE just have to trust Him and eventually, all these problems will make something wonderful.  God is crazy in love with you.  Why he knows how many hairs you have on your head and all the thousands of cells in your body.  He sends you flowers and butterflies every spring and a sunrise every morning and a beautiful sunset every night.  24/7 he's there for a talk. He can live anywhere in the universe and yet live in your heart and soul.

Life may not always be the party you hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.
